About Border Candles

Welcome to Border Candles, where we handcraft beautiful soy wax candles, wax melts, reed diffusers & room spray products in the heart of the Scottish Borders.

Our passion for creating the perfect scent led us to develop a range of 100% soy wax products using only the finest fragrance oils. Every candle is hand-poured with care, ensuring each one is as unique as the Scottish landscapes that inspire us.

We believe in sustainability and use eco-friendly, biodegradable ingredients. Our soy wax is sustainably sourced and our products contain no animal-derived ingredients, making them suitable for vegans.  We are CLP compliant.

The Border Candles Story:

Who is Border Candles?

Val set up Border Candles as a hobby back in September 2015. However, it quickly grew from a hobby into a thriving business producing high quality wax products & home fragrances.  After 10 years of trading Val decided she was looking to retire & in January 2026 she reached out to me, Mags, to see if I knew anyone who might be interested in purchasing the business?  

I had met Val a few years prior at local markets & having purchased some of the products I already knew Border Candles were high quality products with a great reputation & a fabulous existing customer base.  So, having always dreamed of owning my own business & looking for a change in my career I felt this was the Universe giving me a sign to finally take the leap & start my own business.

Val was willing to share everything she had learned & help mentor /train me on how to make the products.... she just had a couple of stipulations:

  1. she wanted the business to stay in the Borders ✔
  2. she wanted whoever took it on to be as passionate about it as she was & have a desire to grow & expand it in the future….. ✔ 

I took over the reigns on 6th April & since then I have slightly modernised the existing brand & been busy creating new branding & this new website.  
Also, Val & I are currently working our way through a 2–3-month mentor/ training programme & I am not only learning to make the full product range (under her watchful eye) but I have also started to attend markets, fairs & events with the product range.

What is Border Candles?

We are a small business based in the Scottish Borders specialising in handmade high quality, eco & vegan friendly candles & wax melts as well as long lasting reed diffusers & rooms sprays. 

The products are handmade in small batches with careful attention to fragrance strength, scent throw & high-quality value.

We are CLP compliant.

We also offer certified hand & body wash & lotions to accompany some of our scent range.

Do I really need them all year round; aren't they just for Christmas?

Whilst many people think candles & wax melts, specifically, are only for Christmas / Winter use, our range of products are perfect for use 365 days a year as they provide lovely scents & aroma throughout your home all year long - from the Living room to the Bedrooms & off course the Bathroom!  

✓ Our candles & wax melts are a great way to cover any unpleasant or lingering smells;
Let's be honest we have all cooked something (delicious but smelly) which leaves a lingering smell throughout the home which you just want to cover up… burning one of our candles or wax melts can very quickly remove the odour & provide a nice aroma once again around the home.  
✓ Whilst our Reed Diffusers are a heatless home fragrance option ideal for long-lasting continuous scent. They are elegant & the perfect addition for bathrooms or any room around the house.
✓ then last but not least our Room Sprays are perfect for freshening rooms, bedding, sofas, & soft furnishings.
